Dr. John A. Watson, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus, Biochemistry and Biophysics

Dr. Watson, Ph.D joined the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, School of Medicine, San Francisco in 1969. He participated and succeded in each of the areas consistent with being a member of the University of California Academy. His research was directed at identification of the sterol and non-sterol isopentenoid regulatory signal molecules that regulated mevalonic acid synthesis in eukarotic cells. A personal national and international reputation was built upon Dr.Watson’s research effort. Dr. Watson received received recognition for his teaching in the classroom and laboratory. University Service by Dr. Watson was extensive. He served as Associate Dean of Medical School Admissions Chair and Vice Chair Medical School Admissions Committeee; Associate Dean, Medical Student Affairs Chair of Committtee for Academic Personnel, Chair of Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and a wide range of University California Systemwide Committees as Chair and / or member. Dr. Watson’s Public Service included being a member of the American Heart Association Grants and Research Committee, Chair and member of several National Institutes of Health Study Sections and Chair and member of the Sigma Xi Distinguished Lectureship Committee.
